Brioni’s Blend 2018

Oliver’s Taranga. McLaren Vale. South Australia

65% Touriga, 25% Mataro, 10% Shiraz

Obs. Den gode vin er desværre udsolgt.

All up, it’s simply delicious…

This is the first release of our Brioni’s Blend! As you know, we like to name our wines after family members, and Brioni had got away without one for too long. We grafted the famous Portuguese variety Touriga over an old Merlot block in 2016. Touriga is super juicy and floral, so we blended it with structured Mataro and generous Shiraz….and Brioni’s Blend was born!

Aroma

Mulberry and violets, with a touch of ironstone. Wine jubes and plum preserves.

Palate

Bright and light on the palate. Fresh berry quince floral flavours, with plenty of chalky tannin to frame the palate. This is all fruit and all good!

Vintage

2018 is one of the vintages of the century. Perfect ripening, good solid crops, strong winter rain and lack of heat waves made it pretty near perfect.

Colour

Bright purple red

13.5% alkohol

Fra vinskribenterne

“A blend of touriga, mataro and shiraz. A very interesting bouquet of dark chocolate, spice, fresh earth and blackberry, all translated to the palate, that is full of juicy flavours and buttressed by tannins.”

Let’s set the record straight – Brioni is a gun. She’s such an easy person to chat and she’s not afraid to roll up the sleeves – quite literally. Be it driving the fork truck, lending a hand in the winery or even competing in the world championships for Cross Fit, she also finds time to be a mum. Respect! This wine is named after her – a tribute to the mums ripping in and making the most of life.

A curious blend of Touriga, Mataro and Shiraz (65/25/10) that works a treat. Grab a piece of protein on your plate and you’re in business. I cooked a beef brisket for seven hours before unleashing this and the reward was divine.

Pretty scents waft from the glass with ease. Think dried purple flowers, violets, jubes and raspberry rope. Energetic blueberries and blackberry fruit coat the mouth with ease. There’s a magnetism to the juicy fruit and lingering aniseed which draws you in as you keep trying to dissect the expressive aromas. Seeing only old French oak, it’s drying to close with soft pillows of chalky tannins coating the palate. All up, it’s simply delicious. Empty glasses seem to follow this with ease – an extra point for that!

Drink now to five years.

Om Oliver’s Taranga Vineyards

Oliver’s Taranga beskriver selv en af deres kerneværdier som Passion about everything we do.

History

While they have ‘only’ been making wine since 1994, the folks at Oliver’s Taranga have a history of grape growing in South Australia that goes back over 170 years. In 1839 William and Elizabeth Oliver travelled to South Australia from Scotland. They eventually settled in the McLaren Vale region where they planted vineyards and orchards on their property ‘Taranga’.
It was sixth generation family member and winemaker Corrina Wright who was the first to convince the family, in particular her grandfather, to let her take some of the grapes to make their own wine. It is easy to understand Corrina’s enthusiasm to make wine with the Oliver’s renowned grapes. The family have been winning awards and plaudits for the quality of their grapes since 1857, when William Oliver was awarded ‘the best collection of grapes’ at the local Willunga Agricultural Society Exhibition.
The exceptional quality of the Oliver’s grapes has also given them a close connection to Australia’s most famous fine wine, Penfolds Grange. Growing grapes that are used to make Grange is one of the highest honours that you can have as an Australian grape grower. Some growers will cherish making the grade and having their Shiraz grapes included in the famous Australian wine just once in their lives, a truly great achievement. The folks at Oliver’s Taranga? They’ve had their grapes from their vineyards included in Penfolds Grange fourteen times since 1996! No wonder Corrina was so keen to make delicious wine with such exceptional grapes!
